Brisbane is the energetic sub-tropical capital of the state of Queensland, Australia. The city is located in the south-east corner of Queensland.
Queensland is a large state covering an area greater than 1.7 million square kilometres. A good point to remember, if you're planning to explore further than the south-eastern area of the state.
Depending on the time you have available, you might consider a combination of flying and driving to visit various destinations, as there are a quite a number of airports serving passenger flights across the state. If you have plenty of time, then a driving holiday or a campervan touring vacation may be your preference.
The City and Surrounds

There are a variety of entry points. The city is serviced by highways and rail links, approaching the city from the north, south and west. Moreton Bay sits to the east, skirted by the north-eastern and south-eastern suburbs, so you may even arrive by ship!
The city is well serviced by national and international airlines with the airport located less than 15 km by road to down town. There is also a train service (known as Airtrain) with stations at both the domestic and international terminals.
This city is home to close on one million residents. This is about one third of the population of over 2.7 million residents who live in this region. This area of south-east Queensland also takes in the Gold Coast to the south, Sunshine Coast to the north and Ipswich to the west.

The Brisbane River winds its way through the city as its waters travel out to Moreton Bay. Ferries frequent terminals along the river at downtown and inner suburban locations. A journey across the river on a "CityFerry" or a trip up and down the river on a "CityCat" provides an interesting angle from which to view and get a feel of this city - great photo opportunities!
